North & Central America Covid Travel Update (August)
Rick C.
The COVID-19 epidemic has caused unprecedented worldwide health, social, and economic emergencies, resulting in grounded planes, closed hotels, and travel restrictions in practically every country.
So the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has created a new dashboard on COVID-19 and tourism (updated monthly) that offers data on the impact of COVID-19 on tourism globally, regionally, and by destination.
Here, below, look at the most recent travel restrictions in North and Central America:
Travel restrictions in Canada
Vaccinated Americans can travel to Canada for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, for non-essential trips. Canada may be traversed by air or by road, and no obligatory hotel quarantine is required.
Travel restrictions in the USA
When traveling within the United States, there are few limitations. The Delta variety, on the other hand, is causing certain regions to be extra cautious by restoring mask mandates. However, states are not requiring enforced quarantines or pre-arrival testing, as they did in 2020.
But keep an eye on a few important exceptions:
Hawaii
Hawaii’s tropical destination has the tightest admission procedures in the 50 US states. To waive the necessary 10-day quarantine, tourists and returning resident will need to demonstrate evidence of vaccine, or have a negative preliminary test.
New York
New York is the first major city in the US to demand complete vaccination in particular indoor locations, including: restaurants, concerts, and gyms.
When the rule comes into force on 13 September 2021, city residents and tourists will need to demonstrate their proof of vaccination.
Travel restrictions in Mexico
Mexico is reachable by air, but the land border is closed to non-essential travel.
It will no longer be necessary for Americans to produce proof of immunization or obtain a pre-arrival test to enter the country.
Travel restrictions in Belize
To enter Belize quarantine-free, you must present proof of immunization or a negative pre-arrival test. Vacationers will also have to stay in Gold Standard properties, which are owned and managed by the government.
Travel restrictions in the Caribbean
A variety of entry requirements can be found for the various Caribbean nations. Certain islands, even for people who are not in a hurry, are currently off-limits.
Pre-arrival testing or immunization proof is required for many open destinations. Travelers on some islands should additionally purchase a coronavirus travel insurance coverage in order to obtain the appropriate vaccination.
If you want to avoid dealing with boats, Costa Rica is a great place to visit this summer, but if you are up for some island-life, those are some of the best destinations to travel to: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Santo Domingo, Jamaica, and Turks and Caicos.
